Getting Your Phone

Unlocked Nokia E61
Many folks have asked me where I purchased my phone - the Nokia E61. I bought an unlocked GSM phone, which I use with T-Mobile. I did not feel comfortable buying over ebay. So research various shops online, and found MobileCityOnline most reassuring. Also, I found that Amazon sources through these guys as well. Typical prices for an unlocked E61 is ~$400 USD.

Cingular Nokia E62
For those who use Cingular, you can purchase the Nokia E62 (basically an E61 without 802.11g support) directly from any Cingular store. Note you are more likely to get a locked phone. Typical prices for a locked E62 with service is ~$200 USD.

Data Plans
I did learned that a data/internet plan is needed to fully use the Nokia E6x smartphone. There are several choices amoung the GSM carriers as to amount of bandwidth. If you plan to use GoodLink or Blackberry, you'd find the unlimited data plans the best. For T-Mobile USA, this unlimited data plan is an extra $30 USD/month.

Steps to Get Your Phone Up and Running Quickly

  • Optional - Ask your IT department to setup a GoodLink/Blackberry account (if you are upgrading your phone, you still need them to reset your account)
  • Call your carrier (T-Mobile or Cingular) add a data plan to your account
  • Buy your phone: E61 from MobileCityOnline orE62 from Cingular
  • Buy a case. For me, I found the E61 Flexiskin at Boxwave best. Or you might find the E62 Flexskin of interest.

When your phone arrives, you'll have a data plan to get your GoodLink and Blackberry up and running. Enjoy Your New Smartphone
